More on Torture

Here is a post describing waterboarding, a common interrogation technique. I have to agree with this blogger's opinion on torture and this doesn't seem like torture to me.

Intellectual Dishonesty

One of the things I despise about Democratic politicians and have come to see just as often from Republicans is intellectual dishonesty. It’s easy to see. Some examples:

  • Al Qaeda in Iraq is coordinating most of the attacks against our troops in Iraq. And the Dems said there was no connection between Iraq and Al Qaeda.

Um, that doesn’t prove there was any connection between the two. It would have been pretty simple for Al Qaeda to move into the country after the war. I mean, it would have been hard to do with the way we secured Iraq’s borders…oh wait. We didn’t. Well, at least we’re treating the Iraqis to the same border security that we treat ourselves to. Back on point, though. If righties want to make a case about Al Qaeda being connected to Iraq, don’t make it using Al Qaeda’s current presence in Iraq. There are plenty of other times the two have communicated to make that case.

  • George Bush misled us into war! He manipulated intelligence!

Um, listen. A good number of Dem Politicians voted to authorize the President to attack Iraq. They had access to and saw the same intelligence the President did.

And to make it even worse, the lefty talking heads and politicians were all banging the drums of war back in the late 90’s when it came to Iraq.

I’ll certainly grant that our troops have had an uphill battle when it has come to managing Iraq after the initial war and most of that has been caused by extremely poor planning. Criticize that. There’s actual substance to that one.

  • OK, now time for one of my own. Torture. I’ve given this a lot of thought and prayer since the last time this was discussed on someone else’s blog. I’ve moved more towards a position that torture is not right in any case. If it’s morally wrong, it’s wrong in all situations. For them…for us.

Now, the area where I’ll probably still disagree with most is what constitutes torture. Abu Graib was not, in my opinion.

  • Most of you lefties (not directed at my lefty friends who read this site)…you don’t give a flying shit about the troops. You only care when we’re dead. You care then because you can use our sacrifices and deaths to further your own cause. The peace organizations fall into this group. Cindy Sheehan falls into this group. They’re sick bastards and deserve *NOTHING* but our scorn. The media should identify them for what they are. They’re funded by socialist organizations and do nothing to support military families before or after they make the ultimate sacrifices. Wounded or dead military are nothing but photo ops and political opportunities to them. They’ve just found a semi-effective way to get across their same point. “We support the troops!” Bullshit. You only say that because the public mood dictates you do. If it were socially acceptable, you’d piss on the graves of the dead and spit in the faces of the living.
