Update

Well, we're here. We arrived yesterday afternoon. Flying in, we got to see a lot of the damage. It's hard to describe. We didn't fly in over most of the city so there was a lot we weren't able to see.

We're at New Orleans Naval Air Station, in a town called Belle Chase about 5 minutes away from the city. Obviously, the base was hit pretty hard. A large tent city has been built up. We're lucky. We found some rooms in an unused, yet air-conditioned building to stay in.

Just today, the network was restored which is why I am able to do this update.

Sometime next week it looks like we'll get the chance to fly over the city in a Blackhawk and, maybe, also drive into it for a bit. But most of our work is here on the base on the flightline.

Keep the 15 of us in prayer, along with the folks who live down here.

OK...now...

OK, now we're leaving Monday. They wanted to wait until after the hurricane...allegedly. Whatever, just send us down. I hate waiting.

OK, I'm going

It's official. I'm heading to New Orleans on Thursday for a 30 day tasking. I'll know more details tomorrow and share what I can.

Activation

Sorry I've been out of touch (though I'm not sure anyone noticed judging by the lack of comments!:-) ).

I've been activated in support of the Hurricane Katrina relief efforts. We're up in Mansfield Ohio sending supplies down on our C-130's. Odds are against being sent down to LA but I'm angling for a trip.

Yesterday we sent the Ohio Governor down.

Maybe more later.
