Some thoughts...
-My base in Mansfield, Ohio was on the Base Relocation and Closure (BRAC) list. Was a surprise to be sure. Not sure exactly what it means for me personally. The soonest the closure would begin is Oct 07 (Fiscal 08) so it’s a ways off. Over the weekend while complaining about something that happened there (I’ll relate below) and I realized I travel the 2+ hours up there and 2+ hours back on those weekends for what is actually my friendship with just 12-15 of the guys (we have over 100 in our unit). There’s something to be said for good people.
-Guy in my unit got the Bronze Star for doing a year in Qatar. Normally, that’s a hell of an accomplishment. But I know how this guy is. He knows his stuff but he’s terribly overweight and never left Qatar. According to my sources(reliable) he buddied up with some generals over there and comes back to a Bronze Star.
I about flipped out and had to call my father to vent. There are guys getting shot at, wounded and/or killed right now who won’t get anything more than a purple heart. I’d be embarrassed to receive such an award.
Bronze Star:
For heroic or meritorious achievement of service, not involving aerial flight in connection with operations against an opposing armed force.
-I don’t know if I’ll vote in 2008. Why bother? All it does is give my consent to a flawed process…I mean what’s the point? The “Republicans” are basically the Democrats from about 40+ years ago. The Democrats are actually socialists and their leadership is SO out of touch with the average person it’s almost funny.
I made the mistake of voting Republican this past year. It may not ever happen again. I may not even vote again.
One consideration is to go the ex-pat way and find a nice little Carribean nation to go to.
-Our current president is a joke at best. And not for the reasons the Left would have you believe. I’ve come to dislike him for basically being a borderline socialist and growing the government the way he has.
-READING ASSIGNMENT: Excellent article about the problems with the Left these days, from someone who has left it. And it doesn’t sing the praises of the “right” so it carries more credibility with me. Why don’t more people think like this? This is basically why I left the “right.” Because they don’t represent what the right is supposed to represent. It’s the same with the left.
